Location: The Old Truman Brewery, The Loading Bay, Brick Lane, LONDON
Date: 4th-8th November 2011 (ONLY TWO DAYS LEFT)
Prepare for high (heeled) art at Shoes for Show. To those for whom shoes are just an intermediary between your foot and the ground, this free exhibition at the Old Truman Brewery will offer little in the way of cultural insight. But for anyone with even a glancing pedal interest, ‘Javari Presents The Sculptural Art of High Heels’ is well worth dipping a toe into. Curated by Shonagh Marshall, who has archived the collections of Christian Louboutin and Isabella Blow, it features stunning photography and many iconic shoes – including the Vivienne Westwood numbers that famously floored Naomi on the catwalk in 1993.
Christian Louboutin for the English National Ballet
Certain to create a buzz, the exhibition of couture shoes features a plethora of big name designers and owners. From the Gareth Pugh designed cuboid shoes for Beyonce’s Run the World music vid to the Swarovski embellished Christian Louboutin heeled ballet shoes, designed for the English National Ballet, there are some absolutely stunning examples of art meeting footwear featured in the exhibition.

A whopping 200 wheat straw bales were used in this display for HEDGE at a California art and design fair last month.
‘Straw is an incredibly effective acoustic buffer,’ said architect Virginia San Fratello of Rael San Fratello Architects. ‘The experience within Straw Gallery was one of quiet, calm and focused observation in contrast to a busy exterior.’
The enveloping, aromatic room was filled with steel niche shelving units that displayed HEDGE’s visions of 20th and 21st century design, art and crafts. These products were displayed at various levels relative to the eyes and hands of viewers.
Straw Gallery was created for the fourth annual San Francisco Art & Design Showlast month. The raw straw juxtaposed its industrial modern surroundings in the Fort Mason Centre.
What do you guys think of this design? We were thinking this could act as a great Pop Up space, allergies to straw aside.

A LiveJournal user called Shrubrub has created some collages by stacking up every single 2010 Vogue cover from all over the world to arrive to the image below, where she’s pretending to see what would appear as Virgin Mary (I guess I could see that too). She also stacked up the covers country by country, creating more interesting results and as you can see the logo does not move a hair. Clever stuff!
