A whopping 200 wheat straw bales were used in this display for HEDGE at a California art and design fair last month.
‘Straw is an incredibly effective acoustic buffer,’ said architect Virginia San Fratello of Rael San Fratello Architects. ‘The experience within Straw Gallery was one of quiet, calm and focused observation in contrast to a busy exterior.’
The enveloping, aromatic room was filled with steel niche shelving units that displayed HEDGE’s visions of 20th and 21st century design, art and crafts. These products were displayed at various levels relative to the eyes and hands of viewers.
Straw Gallery was created for the fourth annual San Francisco Art & Design Showlast month. The raw straw juxtaposed its industrial modern surroundings in the Fort Mason Centre.
What do you guys think of this design? We were thinking this could act as a great Pop Up space, allergies to straw aside.

A Joke that started from the trunk of Johnny’s ’89 Toyota Camry. A college drop out with a drug and alcohol-free lifestyle, he never wasted his time going out and partying but instead focused only on brainstorming and sketching up his wacky ideas. He turned down investors and took countless risks like keeping his shirts out of chain stores. Now he has his very own chain, but his Pop Ups are something to be celebrated!
Back To The Island! The second annual Johnny Cupcakes at Martha’s Vineyard Pop Up Shop is playing host to exclusive tees, shirts & stickers and will only be available while stocks last. This is going to be a fun way to end the summer.
